Summer Intern - Mechanical

Union Pacific is a transportation and logistics company serving the western two-thirds of the United States. The Mechanical Department Summer Intern will support locomotive and railcar operations, process improvement, and industrial engineering projects while gaining hands-on experience at an assigned facility. The role includes developing documentation, improving processes, applying Lean or Six Sigma methods, collaborating with employees and leaders, and contributing to operational efficiency and safety.ResponsibilitiesLearn core business processes and systems within department operationsAssist with process improvement projects at locomotive or railcar facilitiesDevelop standard work documentation and value stream maps to support operational efficiencyApply Lean or Six Sigma concepts to real-world business challengesCollaborate with shop employees and department leaders to implement solutionsBuild and strengthen a network of professional contacts across the companyPerform other duties
